1978	Στις 23:05 σεισμός μεγέθους 6,5 βαθμών Ρίχτερ συγκλονίζει τη Θεσσαλονίκη. Ο σεισμός είχε επίκεντρο 35 χλμ. Α-ΒΑ της Θεσσαλονίκης, στο χωριό Προφήτης στη λίμνη Βόλβη. Είχε διάρκεια 15 δευτερόλεπτα και προκάλεσε πολλές ζημιές στην πόλη με αποκορύφωμα την κατάρρευση της οικοδομής στην Πλατεία Ιπποδρομίου. Ο σεισμός άφησε πίσω του 40 περίπου νεκρούς και μια φοβισμένη πόλη.
