UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Friday announced the appointment of María Angela Holguín Cuéllar of Colombia as his personal envoy to Cyprus.
The government welcomed Holguin’s appointment, saying it was tangible proof of Guterres’ personal dedication to the resumption of negotiations for a Cyprus settlement.
Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said the appointment indicated the UN chief’s will to decisively contribute towards lifting the deadlock and restarting the peace process.
